How to Choose Bridal Earrings for Your Neckline, Hair and Metal Tone

How to Choose Bridal Earrings for Your Neckline, Hair and Metal Tone

Choosing bridal earrings comes down to three things: your neckline, your hairstyle and the colour of your gown. Get those right and your earrings will frame your face in every photo without competing with your dress.

I'm Emma Knight, founder of Lola Knight, an Australian bridal jewellery brand designing modern pearl and crystal wedding earrings since 2019. Here's how I help brides choose.

Quick guide: bridal earrings by neckline

Neckline Earring style Try
Strapless or sweetheart Statement drops, chandeliers, pearl and crystal clusters Juliette, Ayla, Isla
V-neck or plunging Long, slim drops that echo the V Aura, Estella, Carmen
Off-the-shoulder or square Medium drops with some width Lulu, Ada, Maris
High neck, halter or illusion Studs, huggies or small pearl drops Esme, Hazel, Bowie
Scoop or bateau Classic pearl drops or refined studs Elise, Aria

Strapless and sweetheart necklines

With bare shoulders and collarbones, your earrings carry the look. This is the neckline for a statement piece. Look for drops with movement or clusters of pearls and crystals that catch the light.

Our picks: the Juliette Bridal Earrings ($269), Ayla Bridal Earrings ($245) and Isla Crystal Pearl Bridal Earrings ($215).

V-neck and plunging necklines

A V-neck draws the eye down, so choose a longer, slimmer drop that repeats that line. Pear-shaped crystals work especially well.

Our picks: Aura Crystal Bridal Earrings ($159), Estella Crystal Drop Earrings ($169) and Carmen Crystal Drop Bridal Earrings ($139).

Off-the-shoulder and square necklines

These necklines create a strong horizontal line. A medium drop with a little width balances it without crowding your shoulders.

Our picks: Lulu Pearl Crystal Wedding Earrings ($200), Ada Bridal Earrings ($200) and Maris Crystal Pearl Drop Earrings ($169).

High necks, halters and illusion lace

When your dress already has detail at the neck, keep earrings small so the two don't compete. Studs, huggies and petite pearls look refined against lace and high collars.

Our picks: Esme Crystal Pearl Bridal Studs ($110), Hazel Earrings ($105) and the Bowie Pearl Huggie ($119).

Scoop and bateau necklines

These soft, classic shapes suit almost anything. A timeless pearl drop or a refined crystal earring keeps the look elegant.

Our picks: Elise Bridal Earrings ($125) and Aria Pearl Earrings ($189).

Matching earrings to your hairstyle

  • Updos and sleek ponytails: your ears are fully on show, so this is the time for longer drops and statement earrings.
  • Half-up styles: medium drops that peek through the hair.
  • Loose waves or hair down: studs, huggies or shorter drops that won't tangle, such as the Skylar Mini Earrings ($149).

Gold, silver or rose gold?

  • Ivory, champagne and blush gowns: 18K gold and rose gold tones add warmth.
  • Bright white gowns: silver tones look crisp and clean.
  • Mixed metals on the day: match your earrings to your engagement ring or hair accessories so the look feels intentional.

Most Lola Knight bridal earrings come in 18K gold and silver finishes, and many also in rose gold.

Pearl or crystal bridal earrings?

Pearls feel soft, romantic and timeless, and they photograph beautifully in natural light. Crystals bring sparkle for evening receptions and candlelit spaces. If you can't choose, pearl and crystal designs give you both. They're our most-loved style.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I spend on bridal earrings in Australia?

Bridal earrings in Australia range from under $50 for fashion pieces to several thousand dollars for fine jewellery. Lola Knight sits in between: designer bridal earrings from around $105 to $270, made to be worn again after the wedding.

What are Lola Knight earrings made from?

Our pieces are designed in Australia and handmade using sterling silver and brass, finished in 18K gold or silver plating, with cubic zirconia crystals, semi-precious stones and freshwater and baroque pearls.

Should my earrings match my necklace?

They should complement each other, not compete. With statement earrings, skip the necklace or choose something very fine. If you want both, a coordinated bridal jewellery set takes out the guesswork.

Can I wear my bridal earrings again?

Yes. We design every piece to work beyond the wedding day for anniversaries, events and evenings out.
